Sally for President?

Critiqued by Cowboytf | September 19, 2007 .

There are quite of few mixed reactions about the Sally Field Speech. Of course, the majority of mothers are on her side. I do commend her for speaking out, after-all, she does have the free speech right, doesn’t she? She has been actively involved with Union Rights so she knows her stuff but I think the true message was to convey World Peace no matter how unrealistic it is.

My opinion is somewhat different. Yes, my heart goes out to all the families of the soldiers but as far as the “If mothers ruled the world, there would be no go-damned wars in the first place”, quote, I would have to disagree. As a mother, I tell my kids all the time, rules or no rules that if they are being picked on to fight back. It’s part of life. Sometimes fighting is the necessary option. The war we are in today is to protect this country and the great people that live in it–To prevent future attacks and to bring some kind of peace to all Americans minds. This is a big sacrifice our troops are doing for the sake of us.

Of course you’re going to have people defending freedom and fighting for peace with honor, and protesters complaining of failure. Have you forgotten why this started?

We fight to prevent future 9/11’s from happening. We fight because we have to. We can’t go back and say coulda, shoulda, woulda–By causing more conflict, you are bringing the troop morale down. I don’t pretend to know what we should do or should have done about Iraq. But regardless of whether you are for or against the war, you MUST support the troops.

I have to agree with you. There would still be war. But, I wonder what else would be different. I think there would be a lot more diplomacy for one thing. It will be interesting to see who wins the white house next year.

I would love to think a female could be president, but let’s be realistic about this - there are still parts of the world that don’t respect women, can we afford to have a female president? Here at home yes, absolutely, but abroad?
