It takes just a little bit of tweaking to get a traffic increase. By following a few simple steps, I guarantee you will see some kind of traffic increase.
- Change your plain ‘ol RSS button to a bigger one. It’s important to have one that stands out. If you don’t have one, get one! You can see I decorated mine with “cents”:)
- Put your
where it can be seen. I actually need to implement this on my blog. I have it underneath each post, but I think it needs to be somewhere closer to the top. Perhaps near the subscribe button would be a better place.
- Add a “What is RSS” post or page to link to. Describe what RSS is, how to use, and why. You would be surprised at how many people DO NOT know what RSS means. Mine is added underneath my BIG subscribe icon.
- Keep track of your page loading time. I cannot stress how important this is. If someone can’t load your page, you have just lost a potential reader/customer. I wrote about this in Blogger Basics. I recently had a reader who said she had been visiting my site with no problems and then the last few days she couldn’t even get it to load at all. I moved my blogrolls to their own page and removed unnecessary widgets and talk about a huge difference. I had several people tell me how much better it was.
- Finally, when thinking of topics to blog about, include how-to’s and lists. We all love those Top 10 lists and “how to” tutorials. I always see a huge increase in traffic when I post this kind of material.
These are super easy and will take no time to put in effect.

I too noticed the change in load times. I usually don’t notice any change at home, but at work due to the security setup I always notice a difference.
I have to put more emphasis on my RSS… I’m fairly new at that myself, but you’re right, it’s important ! Page loads fine now ;)
I’m learning more and more about page loading time. It loaded fine for me before but I guess not for other people. I’m glad it made a difference though :D
Half of my family doesn’t have a clue what RSS is so I can only imagine how many other out there don’t know what the hec it it.
Hi there! Thanks for all the wonderful tips. Moreover, I didn’t know that adding a “What is RSS?” page can make a difference. I am going to do it immediately. Thanks again! :)
