There will be exceptions to each tip, however, these tips come from what I have learned over the past few months.
- Obviously, write about a topic that interests you. This can’t be said enough. You need to love or know something about your niche.
- Get your own web hosting with domain. This will proved a better perception of your blog, as well as, provide you with some extra benifits.
- Allow and respond to comments. I think it’s important to have that interactivity between a blogger and a reader. It’s also very important to respond to comments. By doing this, you will actually gain blogger respect and readership.
- Choose your theme wisely. While this isn’t as important as content, it is important enough to pick a theme that is user friendly and fitting to your personality.
- Make a posting schedule. This won’t always apply because you will need to allow for top stories and such but it’s better to have some sort of schedule. Now whether you decide to post once a week or 6 times a day is up to you, just try to take days off (preferrably the weekend). Remember, blogging is supposed to be fun not a chore:)
- Make your posts scannable. It’s important to write proper links like you see in my previous tips. For example: In the first tip I provided, I made the word ‘niche’ link to my post on niche picking. Don’t use words like ‘this’ or ‘here’. It’s ineffective. People like to scan through a post to see if something stands out to their interest.
- PLEASE use spell check. We have all been guilty of writing errors but how hard is it to hit that little spell check button? There’s nothing worse than reading a post with sum horible speling;)
- Have patience. If your blogging for money, then don’t expect some kind of overnight success. It takes time to build and establish a readership. It takes time to gain the trust of your potential customers. Don’t over load yourself by trying to accomplish this in a short amount of time or you’ll end up with blog depression and failing.
I hope these help you out. They are mostly small things but are
very powerful in the blogging world. I learned the hard way so if I can help one person get ahead of the game, it will all be worth it:) If you have learned something that has made your blogging better, please leave a comment with what it was. I would love to hear what other people have learned.

Great pointers, I learn the hard way too! Point #2 is my biggest advice to anyone who is serious about your blogging. I started out with sub domain and learn the hard way. Wish someone had told me earlier!
I agreee, I wish someone would have told me that too!
I like this new theme a lot.
Btw did you get my request to exchange links? I have linked you at netvestor.
Cheers

Hi there! I’m glad you like the new theme! And I will had you right now..I forgot..sorry
I like the new theme as well. Like I said before though the old one was starting to grow on me.
It’s not exactly what I had in mind, but it seems to be much faster and I think it it will grow on me in time..I hope it grows on you too ;)
I see most of the above as important but for the spelling check, I draft my post on a offline word document processor like Microsoft Word to get my grammar checked as well as I type.
Most of the steps like choosing a niche and theme should be done earlier as changing it after launching your blog will be quite time consuming and might be against your readers’ needs.
I gotta say Cowboy, since I first met you over at the PPP forums you really have figured out some stuff and I am amazed at your progress as a blogger, awesome article and great job!
A blogging schedule… i really need to make one of those and stick to it. I have been lacking discipline in my posting.
I’m just testing threaded comments:)
