Our living room and “office” have no ceiling lights so it tends to get very dark and dull here at my desk. I’ve been trying to find a good lamp but they seem to only light one part of the desk area, therefore making it useless. When I’m researching articles, I’m always writing things down, printing, and making lists in between so lighting is essential. As a blogger, I think our surroundings need to be as comfortable, as well as, functional. So today, I plan on checking out some Hinkley lighting options to put above my desk. I’ve heard good things about the company and figure they will have exactly what I’m looking for. I’m thinking this will be a better option since my desk is fairly big and needs lighting from one side to the other. I’m hoping by putting it above the desk, I’ll also decrease any chance of a glare showing up on my monitor.
Something else I need to invest in is a new chair. Mine is extremely uncomfortable. It’s hard and shortsided–meaning my big butt doesn’t fit well in it. Hmmm, maybe if I got off my big butt and did something else besides blogging, it would fit. I’m not a fan of the high back chairs because I like to lean way back and stretch my arms out. It helps relax me a bit. I also need a chair that can go up and down. 4 of use this computer so it would need to meet all of our heights.
My printer is within arms reach so I can easily scan, fax, and print items. I have a filing cabinet right next to my desk for easy access of bills, statements, paper, ect. I keep my postal scale under my desk so that it’s easily accessible but out of the way when not being used. I keep my non-cordless phone here at my desk so I can see who’s called, check messages, and use the speaker phone. I would love to have a wireless set to walk around with but they are too pricey for this gal. I keep a small trash bin under my desk where my legs are. It’s easy to toss something away and it’s hidden.
There a few more things that I’d like to do but those will take some time. Of course, I would love to have my own office room but since they won’t happen, I’ve got to make the best out of what I do have.
Is your “office” comfortable and functional?
