Putting Yourself Out There Part Two

Critiqued by Cowboytf | February 26, 2008 .

I wrote about putting yourself out there before with networking and thought I’d add to the list.

PROMOTIONAL GIFTS

Everybody is promoting their blogs with gifts like t-shirts, logo pens, and even baby wear but I’m curious as to how effective this really is.  Since I don’t have any promotional gifts to giveaway, I can’t give you any other statistics.  I would love to know if it is cost effective.   I will say, I got a Winning the Web shirt in the mail and showed it offon my blog so I guess it must work to some extent.   Hmmmm, would you folks buy a lovely shirt from me?

If you already have some sort of promotional gift, then you may want to send it to Shoemoney.  Since his readership is HUGE, then you could possibly gain some big time exposure!

GUEST BLOGGING

Becoming a guest blogger is a great way to put yourself out there but it can also be very intimidating to many.  You may feel that your post isn’t worthy enough, you might be afraid of rejection from both the reader and the blog owner, and you may be worried about reader’s comments.  Let me tell ya folks, you never know until you try and if you fail the first time, just consider it a valuable learning lesson and move on.  I recently put myself out there with a guest post and while I am a little self conscience about it, I’m proud to have given it a go.  What is that?  You want to see my guess post?  Well, okay!  You can read my post on, “Finding a Niche that Pays” over at IanFernando.com.  I was actually approached by Ian (since he doesn’t do guest open calls) and I was nervous about accepting because he writes quality content and it’s of a much higher quality than my own.  Nevertheless, I did accept and I can only hope it’s up to his standards.

Have you been a guest blogger? Do you want to do it but find yourself turning into a big scaredy cat?  What about t-shirts….would you consider investing in some to give out or have you bought any?

It’s your turn to talk!

    Hey Lori,
I think the 2 strategies you mention here are very important in gaining traction for a new site especially. I’m here at Affiliate Summit West in Las Vegas right now and companies are throwing promotional gifts and prizes everywhere. Free beer here, free hat and shirt there. Free car giveaway, PS3, skateboards… It just doesn’t stop.

As for guest blogging, it takes a lot more effort but if you’re up for the challenge it really makes a huge difference. Gotta have remarkable content though.

Howdy Gyutae! I must say I’m flattered that you would take time from your trip to comment. Ummmm, could you bring me something back?

I don’t think my content is remarkable by any means but I still gave it a go.

Thanks for stopping by and have some fun for me!!!!

Hi Lori. I got your comment, on my New York Renovator blog, about the 404 error. I made a screenshot of what I see, to give you a better idea of what’s going on. Hope it helps.

guest posting is a really great way to get yourself out there. It brings people that read others sites right on over to yours if they like your article.

Once my blog gets a little bigger I’m planning on sending in guest posts for John Chow, Problogger, and ShoeMoney. It would do wonders for my traffic if even one of those were to get accepted, and I could use a boost like that!

This is such a great site. I just did a guest blog on fixyaface.blogspot.com/ and it was the best!! I was so nervous at first but once I saw my writing, I became ecstatic! I still am! I can’t wait to do more and beyond!

It’s so crazy that my guest blog appeared today and I see this tonight. Keep up the great work. :D
