2 Ways to Organize your Inbox and Emails

Critiqued by Cowboytf | February 5, 2008 .

When you get up to 300 emails a day, you must be organized!  There are 2 simple things you can do to make your Inbox less chaotic.

  • Create folders

This is by far one of the easiest ways to keep your Inbox nice and clean.  Simply think about all the emails you receive on a daily basis and create categories.  Let’s take a look at mine for an example.

I have folders for:

  • Each of my blogs
  • Advertisers
  • Affiliates
  • Ebay
  • Orders placed
  • Photography & so on…..

Now many people would stop here and just drag each email to it’s specific folder but there is a much easier way to get your emails to the folder they belong in.

  • Create message rule for emails

By creating a rule for messages, they will automatically be filtered into their designated folder.  This is important for a couple of reasons. It allows you to see what takes priority.  If I see that I have emails in my advertisers folder, I know that I need to check it ASAP because it means a spot has been  purchased or the advertiser may be trying to contact me.  This takes precedent over my “cool stuff” folder obviously.  By knowing this, I am cutting down the time I spend reading emails that are not as important as others.

Video Tutorial

I’ve created a small tutorial on how to create a message rule for your emails in Outlook Express.  This is my first ever video tutorial so be kind. It’s a little blurry but I’ll work on improving them in the future. I thought it would be easier, for those who have never even looked at that feature, to understand.

If you have some clever ways to keeping your Inbox organized, I would love to hear how. Please share them in the comments.
